did Bulimia cause type 2 Diabetes?
i have suffered from bulimia which after eating excessive amount of foods, i tried to use laxative to get rid out all of the food that i have eaten. It’s been a year… today on, i tried to eat healthy and feel great about it and want to practice as it becoming my habit. What I really concerned about is after a year of binging followed by laxative abuse, can this cause type 2 diabetes ? I’m really afraid… i have checked by glucose test a month ago and i’m free from it but few days ago, my hands feel numb… did i have diabetes ?
One of the factors in type 2 is a genetic link, so if either your parents,siblings or grand parents have had diabetes then you have an increased risk. Poor diet may be a contributing factor in the disease developing as well.
The only way to know for sure if you are Diabetic is to see a doctor who can test your blood and measure not only your glucose level at that moment in time but it can also be tested to show the average glucose level over the past 8 -12 weeks(Hb1ac). All a finger prick test will tell you what you level is at a particular moment in time. If you think you may be diabetic see your doctor and get tested because the sooner treatment starts the better.
